TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — College students who want financial aid for the next school year need to fill out the FAFSA form.
The Indiana Commission for Higher Education encourages all high school seniors and current or prospective college students to file the FAFSA by the April 15 deadline.
The form is needed to see if a student qualifies for state and federal financial aid with $400 million dollars in state aid available to students. Federal aid is also available.
As of March 15, the completion rate in the state was only about 31% and Allison Kuehr, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education’s Associate Commissioner for Marketing and Communications said filling out the form is easier this year.
“When students and parents are actually able to sit down and fill it out some of them are able to get it done in a matter of minutes compared to, I don’t know if you filled out the FAFSA in past years but it would take quite a bit of time and have a lot of things you would have to answer,” Keuhr said. “This year, it is substantially shorter and takes a lot less time.”
A link to the form can be found online at the Federal Student Aid website.
