VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The communities throughout Vigo County have been determined to be the second most dangerous to drive in during weekends across the entire United States according to a new study.
A study conducted by injury lawyers with Bader Scott reviewed data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to find the number of fatal crashes that occurred only on weekends in each U.S. county that registered at least 50 fatal accidents between 2017 and 2021.
That data was then compared to the total number of crashes and used to determine which county in America is the most dangerous to drive in during that time frame. While number one was determined to be Pickaway County in Ohio with 56.86% of all fatal crashes taking place on a weekend, Vigo County came in a close second with 56.14%.
The study shows that Vigo County saw “a total of 57 fatal accidents between 2017 and 2021, with 32 occurring over the weekend.”
On the other side of the list, the study shows that the safest county to drive in during weekends is Medina County in Ohio with 16.67% of fatal accidents taking place between Friday and Sunday.
