TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club plans to spend over $1,000,000 in renovations to enhance their program.
The organization’s CEO Bobby Moore explains how they plan to do that.
“Making the space more conducive for our young people to participate, making the areas a lot safer, and renovating carpets and walls so that it is color coordinated so that it fits the kids’ abilities to participate here at the club,” he said.
The non-profit group has been working hard to raise the money.
“We have written some grants for the things we are doing, and this is also a part of a Lilly Endowment Grant we received for doing some trainings and doing some renovations and capital improvements of our spaces here at the learning lab,” he said.
Moore added that a lot of these enhancements are going to go towards items that unlock new opportunities.
“We are upgrading the technology and things like that, so it helps our kids as far as mentoring and educational purposes,” he added.
Moore also said that at the end of the day, he always wants there to be a place like this for kids in the community.
“Kids can have a safe place that they call home, feel comfortable, and be able to talk to our staff members as well while also having all the proper protocols in place so that when kids are coming into our building that they are safe,” he said.
The Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club are hosting a Derby Day fundraising event on May 4 at the Vigo County Fairgrounds in support of this project.
