TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Terre Haute has a new local animal rescue. Happy Tails Animal Rescue is a non-profit that is dedicated to the rescue and rehoming of animals in need.
Founders Aaron Childress and Taylor Bullock started the rescue in January to help with the animal population in Vigo County. This rescue is mainly based off fosters, which is when you take temporarily ownership of the animal until the long-term home is found. Their mission is to match the right animal with the right forever home, creating a lifelong bond that benefits both the animal and the adoptive family.
The couple plans to purchase land to build a 4,000 foot poll barn to have more space for animals.
Aaron and Taylor said saving the animals is what makes the hard work worth it.
“The things that animals have done for me in my life have added a lot of value. Helped me through some really really hard times and I just feel like that as people in the community I’d like to pay it back,” Childress said.
“We just pulled a dog last week from the ICS shelter in Indianapolis and his name was Porpoise. He was a three year-old pitbull shot in the face in January. And we we’re able to pull him an hour and a half before his euthanasia and he was under Happy Tails Animal Rescue for a week and his foster parents decided to adopt him yesterday. You know you can’t save them all, but you might be able to save some,” Bullock said.
