VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vincennes YMCA is a bit closer to its goal of raising $2.5M for renovations after a local hospital pledged a quarter of a million dollars to the effort.
Good Samaritan Hospital recently announced the donation of $250,000 toward the YMCA of Vincennes’ capital campaign. The renovation project is expected to bring much improvement to the location including possibly adding a golf simulator, pickleball court, volleyball court, and a batting cage.
The group plans to renovate the lobby and main entry of the location as well.
“Good Samaritan remains focused on community and is constantly seeking opportunities to invest in this community through building relationships that support our mission of wellness and overall health,” Good Samaritan President and CEO, Rob McLin, said. “Wellness is a key component of our mission, and it does not solely focus on our patients. Wellness is also centered around every caregiver working at Good Samaritan.”
The YMCA of Vincennes’ CEO Denis Kordes said that this ties directly into the county’s goal of improving health and wellness.
“The big focus that the hospital has is on community wellness and here in Vincennes the YMCA is a hub of a lot of different activities and one of the big pushes is community health and wellness especially for children,” he said.
Kordes added that it is nice to know that they have so much support within their community.
“The support that we receive year-round from all of our community partners is something that I will forever be thankful for,” he said. “Renovations and improvements like this would not be possible without the generosity of them and the entire community.”
With the donation the YMCA announced that Good Samaritan employees will now receive a 25% discount on YMCA memberships. The group will also establish Good Samaritan Week that will coincide with National Hospital Week May 12-18 where employees can try out the YMCA for free.
