SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Sullivan Elementary went all out with their very own Kentucky Derby Day.
The day featured all things derby themed. Students and teachers dressed to impress by making their own fascinators, which is the head piece normally worn during the derby. Students participated in a derby race and watched movies to learn about the history of the derby.
The school also invited a horse jockey to read a story to the students.
Title One Teacher Amy Collins said it’s an exciting day for everyone.
“At first when we talk about Derby day they’re like what are you talking about because obviously this is not something that’s natural to them. But once they started watching the movies and hearing the things and understanding what we were doing they get super excited,” she said.
Friday our very own Nicole Krasean will be live at the Kentucky Derby and we will have more coverage on Saturday.
